2 giorni fa · The Emperor was succeeded by his eldest son, Akihito (r. 1989–2019), whose enthronement ceremony was held on 12 November 1990 at the Tokyo Imperial Palace. Hirohito's death ended the Shōwa era. On the next day, 8 January 1989, a new era began: the Heisei era, effective at midnight the following day.

When you read about Japan on the news or read the credits of Japanese TV you never see anyone called Hirohito Showa Taisho Akihito or Naruhito. Granted you also don't see anyone called Tojo either, but I suspect that's for the same reason no one has the same 1st ir last name of a certain Austrian Artist
