Hasan ibn Ali (Arabic: الْحَسَنِ بْن عَلِيّ, romanized: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī; c. 625 – April 670) was an Alid political and religious leader. The eldest son of Ali and Fatima and a grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad , Hasan briefly ruled as caliph from January 661 until August 661.

Birth and Martyrdom Imam Hasan (a.s.) was born on fifteenth of Ramadan in the third year after Hijrah in Medina. His father was Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) and his mother was Fatimah (s.a.), Prophet Muhammad (S)’s daughter. His nickname was Abu Muhammad and his most famous titles were Taqi, Tayyib, Zaki, Sayyid, Sibt, and Wali.
24 ott 2022 · Al-Hassan ibn Ali was the first child of Fatimah, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad and Khadijah. Prophet Muhammad expressed great joy at the birth of his first grandchild and named him Al-Hassan, himself. He grew up to develop a close physical resemblance to his grandfather, Prophet Muhammad.
Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī obtained a generous pension and was allowed to live quietly in Medina. Ḥasan died in 670. Many early sources say his death was the result of poisoning by one of his wives, Jaʿdah bint al-Ashʿath, in conspiracy with Muʿāwiyah.
