Alexander Briant (1556-1581) was a diocesan priest who entered the Jesuits just before he was executed. He studied at Oxford where one his teachers had been Robert Persons who later became a Jesuit and slipped into England with Campion.

Alexander Briant was born in Somerset but further details of his family, early life and even his years at Oxford remain a mystery. What is certain is this: he became a member of Hart Hall, where he matriculated in 1574.
1 dic 2020 · On this day in Tudor history, 1st December 1581, twenty-five-year-old Roman Catholic priest Alexander Briant was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn, along with Ralph Sherwin and Edmund Campion. Briant had been imprisoned, starved, racked and tortured in other awful ways, but he claimed that he felt no pain due to God's help.
