Tennyson, the fourth of twelve children, showed an early talent for writing. At the age of twelve he wrote a 6,000-line epic poem.
Alfred Tennyson nasce il 6 agosto 1809 nel piccolissimo villaggio di Somersby, nel Lincolnshire (Regno Unito), dove il padre era parroco e dove con la famiglia - che complessivamente conta ben dodici figli - vive fino al 1837.

Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Alfred Tennyson was born in 1809 at Somersby, Lincolnshire, the son of the Rector there. He was educated at Louth Grammar School. The Tennysons were a prominent but quarrelsome family, and he grew up in comfortable but not particularly wealthy circumstances. In 1827 he went to Trinity College, Cambridge.

Alfred Tennyson (Somersby, Lincolnshire 1809 - Haslemere, Surrey, 1892) è stato il più importante poeta dell'epoca vittoriana, nominato Poeta Laureato nel 1850 e barone nel 1884. Tra le sue opere più celebri, oltre a In Memoriam (1850), i poemi Idylls of the King ( Gli idilli del Re , 1885), ispirati al ciclo arturiano, e molte raccolte di liriche.
