Alberto Baltazar Urista Heredia (born August 8, 1947), better known by his nom de plume Alurista, is an American poet and activist. His work was influential in the Chicano Movement and is important to the field of Chicano poetry.

Alurista is one of the first poets to blend English and Spanish languages in his writing, as well as various slangs of both. He is the author of many books, including Xicano Duende: A Select Anthology (2011), Tunaluna (2010), As our barrio turns: who the yoke b on? (2000), Z Eros (1995), and Et Tu ... Raza? (1995).
Alurista is one of the leading literary figures of the Chicano Movement era. He is most well-known for his support of the Chicano Movement through his literature and poetry. Alurista was an early Chicano activist, credited in helping to establish The Centro Cultural de la Raza in San Diego.
Alurista is best known for Floricanto en Aztlán (1971), his first book of poetry, in which he introduced the blended use of English, Spanish, and pre-Columbian languages.

the fact that Alurista is writing in English and Spanish. As with all Alurista's poetry, the poem is concerned with both the particularities. of Chicano/a experience and an understanding of that experience a global context. Alurista's poetry suggests that chicanismo is in a global, interconnected view of the world.
