Cozy Powell (born Colin Trevor Flooks; 29 December 1947 – 5 April 1998) was an English drummer who made his name with major rock bands and artists such as The Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Gary Moore, Graham Bonnet, Brian May, Whitesnake, Emerson, Lake & Powell, and Black Sabbath.
5 apr 2024 · The driver – Cozy Powell – died that same night of his injuries in hospital. Next morning, the papers revealed that the life of Powell, a rock drumming superstar for 30 years, had ended abruptly and without warning. His famous admission that “I play the drums like I drive – crazy”, had become his epitaph.

He left the band because Blackmore wanted a more commercial sound, something that Powell had not interest in. In the following decades he released new studio albums and worked with Michael Schenker Group, Whitesnake, ELP, Black Sabbath and more. One of his final works was with Queen‘s Brian May, on the album “Another World” (1998).
Drummer Cozy Powell, with whom Brian May worked on the album, died in a car accident before the album was completed. The song "Business" was released as a single as a tribute to Cozy. Guitarist Jeff Beck performed on the track "The Guv'nor."
