5 apr 2019 · Aber "Ashanti" springt holprig zwischen engagiertem Betroffenheits-Polit-Kino und Abenteuertrash hin und her, sodass beides einander im Weg steht. Da gibt es beispielsweise den Hinweis, dass es auch heute noch einen Sklavenmarkt gebe und dass der Film auf Fakten basiere.

Zwar legt der Film partiell durchaus die Grausamkeit des Metiers erschütternd dar, was aber eher einen selbstzweckhaften denn einen seriös behandelten Charakter hat. Als Film mit echtem Anspruch sollte und darf Ashanti gar nicht erst versucht betrachtet zu werden. Daran kann er nur scheitern.
