Athole Dane Shearer Hawks (November 20, 1900 – March 17, 1985) was a Canadian-American actress and socialite, who was the sister of motion picture star Norma Shearer and MGM film sound engineer Douglas Shearer.

In 1938 she met noted film director Howard Hawks, who was immediately smitten with her and did everything he could to persuade her to marry him despite the fact he was already married to Athole Shearer, the sister of actress Norma Shearer. Three years later he was divorced from Athole and married Slim.

Athole Shearer was an actress most noted as the sister of motion picture star Norma Shearer and film sound engineer Douglas Shearer. Shearer was born in Montreal, Quebec. As a teenager, her divorced mother moved the two girls to New York City and then to Hollywood and in 1920 she obtained her first minor film roll.
Hawks had been married since 1928 to Athole Shearer, the sister of Norma Shearer and Douglas Shearer, the sound recordist at MGM. It was Athole’s second marriage (she had a son, Peter, by her first husband). But Athole was not always well.
