BBC Elstree Centre (1984–present) The BBC bought the studios in 1984. At first the studios were used for BBC shows only, but later they became available for hire by other production companies and broadcasters. Today they are run by BBC Studioworks.
The studios were due to close in late 2011, with BBC South West moving to a new purpose-built broadcasting centre on the banks of Sutton Harbour, opposite the Barbican in Plymouth city centre. The move stalled, however, due to a developer pulling out of the project and the effect of the recession on the construction industry.

From September 2011 onwards, the links have been based at the BBC's northern base at studios HQ5 and HQ6 in Dock10 studios at MediaCityUK following the move of the BBC Children's department there. As is with the rest of the BBC's channels, there is a lack of advertisements and programmes are occasionally broken up by trailers for new shows, new seasons of said shows or events.
