BBC One è il primo canale televisivo della BBC. Iniziò a trasmettere il 2 novembre 1936 come BBC Television Service e fu il primo servizio televisivo regolare al mondo con un elevato livello di risoluzione dell'immagine. Venne successivamente rinominato BBC TV fino al lancio di BBC Two nel 1964, quando divenne BBC1.

Dal 1º luglio 1967 BBC2 è il primo canale televisivo in Europa a trasmettere a colori (la stessa sorte toccherà poi anche a BBC1 e ITV). Le trasmissioni in VHF 405 righe di BBC1 (e ITV) proseguiranno per compatibilità con i vecchi ricevitori televisivi fino al 1985.

The British Broadcasting Corporation ( BBC) is a British public service broadcaster headquartered at Broadcasting House in London, England. Originally established in 1922 as the British Broadcasting Company, it evolved into its current state with its current name on New Year's Day 1927.
BBC Television is a service of the BBC. The corporation has operated a public broadcast television service in the United Kingdom, under the terms of a royal charter, since 1927. It produced television programmes from its own studios from 1932, although the start of its regular service of television broadcasts is dated to 2 November 1936. [2]
