BACK OF BEYOND is a dark psychological thriller centring on Petesy who works in a petrol station in the arsehole of nowhere. Petesy gets travellers of all sorts but today a young fella called Gabriel stops at the station to gather up supplies for a long road trip.

It’s a lyrical film, shot entirely on location and in the most difficult circumstances – a brave decision rewarded with some of the most memorable location cinematography of the period, capturing a now utterly vanished outback world .
Clip description. A pan across a skeleton-littered desert of ‘prehistoric bones’ sets the scene. As the camera sweeps across this vast landscape, the voice-over narration tells of the Aborigines, explorers, settlers, prospectors and drovers who travelled up and down the land defying ‘loneliness, droughts, dust storms’.
