Balthasar Hubmaier (1480 – 10 March 1528; Latin: Pacimontanus) was an influential German Anabaptist leader. He was one of the most well-known and respected Anabaptist theologians of the Reformation .

HUBMAIER, Balthasar . Riformatore anabattista, nato a Friedberg presso Augusta circa il 1485, bruciato a Vienna il 10 marzo 1528. Studiò a Friburgo sotto J. Eck e, dopo essere stato maestro di scuola a Sciaffusa, lo seguì a Ingolstadt, ove conseguì il dottorato in teologia nel 1512.

20 lug 2022 · Balthasar Hubmaier (l. 1480-1528) was a Catholic theologian who converted to the Protestant Anabaptist sect in 1525. His Concerning Heretics and Those Who Burn Them (1524) was a plea for religious tolerance written prior to his conversion to a sect persecuted by both Catholics and Protestants who dismissed the piece as heretical.
He was the author of many articles and pamphlets condemning and criticizing Rome. In 1528 authorities arrested him in Vienna, condemned him as a heretic, and on March 10 burned him at the stake. His faithful wife, who encouraged him to remain true to the Word of God, was drowned in the Danube River eight days later.
