Nel 1946, nel dopoguerra, esce la raccolta di poesie Paroles , dove Barbara è contenuta. Già dai primi versi il poeta delinea il luogo in cui l’opera è ambientata: si tratta di Brest , una cittadina portuale francese bombardata nel 1944.
