William John Owen Rowbotham, MBE (14 March 1914 – 12 July 1999) was an English actor and songwriter. He was the father of actor Tom Owen. He is best known for portraying Compo Simmonite in the Yorkshire-based BBC comedy series Last of the Summer Wine for over a quarter of a century.
Bill Owen (1914-1999) was known for his roles in films, TV and theatre, especially as Compo in Last of the Summer Wine. He also wrote songs, musicals and plays, and received the MBE for his work with boys clubs and performing arts.
