3 ago 2024 · 4. Bob Cousy 5. Neil Johnston In reverse order: Johnston was the 1b on the second-best team in the regular season, and that 1a was an injured non-entity in the postseason. Cousy discussed at length throughout the thread and will likely not be reappearing on my ballot after this year but did enough to earn placement this year.
2 nov 2016 · Both were a quicker, faster than Cousy. Rodgers was a very good ballhandler/passer, But the problem with Rodgers was that, like Cousy, he shot too much. He was a poor shooter who one season as a pg averaged almost 20 shots a game while shooting about 37% from the floor.
4 ago 2024 · 1. Bob Cousy 2. Bob Pettit 3. Neil Johnston I feel strongly the Celtics were actually a good offense this year, and Cousy had some incredible passing and ball-stealing games in the playoffs. Pettit was a close 2nd, and Neil Johnston gets in over Arizin due to availability in the playoffs. DPOY 1. Bill Russell 2. Maurice Stokes 3. Tom Heinsohn
2 ago 2024 · Bob Cousy - OK, ZeppelinPage convinced me to move Cousy from my HM's into 3rd. As I've alluded to repeatedly, I suspect bbref underrates the Celtic ORtg's during the Russell era (due to inflated pace estimates); ZP [via citing Ben Taylor] reenforces this notion, as by Taylor's estimated paces, the Celtics were actually the 2nd-best offense in the league this year.
10 mag 2023 · Bob Cousy is quite down my top 100, maybe not even in it if I did a recount. If using Cousy's 63 ranking as a medium of sorts, he's still closer to guys out of the top 100, even if those guys are like 130, 140, 150 etc as the tiers start to have more players in them the lower down the rankings you go.
16 apr 2024 · I don't think that's the right lens to view what Bob Cousy can do for a team. We're trying to pigeon hole his abilities that way into becoming a player that he isn't, or ever would be. Best way to think of it IMO is that he's a 6-1 Jokic or Luka.
Re: Why isn't Bob Cousy treated like Russell Post #19 » by Dr Positivity » Sun Jun 5, 2011 5:04 am What a PG needs to be good today says Cousy was more of a revolutionary than a player who'd be great today.
No real post moves, post defense was mediocre, most bigs couldn't stretch the floor at all. A guy like Bob Cousy was a NBA Champion and an MVP, he wouldn't even come close to making an NBA team. A guy like Elgin Baylor, who averaged 27 and 13 for his career, probably wouldn't make an NBA team either.
4 ago 2024 · 1958 Celtics rORTG: +1.4 (3rd of 8) Having Russell in the paint makes defending on the perimeter easier, and allows the Celtics' skilled defenders to take more risks. Players like Cousy, Sharman, Ramsey, and even Sam Jones, are allowed to play for steals more without being punished.
