Bonnie Cashin (September 28, 1908 – February 3, 2000) was an American fashion designer. Considered a pioneer in the design of American sportswear , she created innovative, uncomplicated clothing that catered to the modern, independent woman beginning in the post-war era through to her retirement from the fashion world in 1985.

This is Cashin's unique take on the traditional yellow raincoat. The basic garment is altered into a pleated fashion accessory which easily serves form and function. The collar even doubles as a folding hood that harkens back to an 18th-century calash, a style of bonnet that folded up over the head to protect women's coiffures.
Bonnie Cashin was an ‘ideas’ person and a self-proclaimed, ‘do-er’. Her ideas were about form, function, and modern living. One of Cashin’s big ideas was what she called, her ‘impossible dream’ which was a fund that she dreamed of establishing to support what she called, ‘real creativity’.
