"The Boy From Oz" tells about the life of the great Australian entertainer, Peter Allen. The show starts with in the 1950s with his humble beginnings growing up in an Australian bush town.
A documentary titled The Boy from Oz about Allen was produced after his death, featuring clips from his performances as well as interviews with performers who worked with him. A stage musical based on his life, also titled The Boy from Oz, opened in Australia in 1998.
The Boy From Oz is the most successful Australian musical ever and the first to make it to Broadway. It is a musical biography/tribute to the late great Peter Allen. Peter Allen was born in the outback Australian town of Tenterfield in 1944.
On a March evening in 1998, six years after the death of Australian entertainer Peter Allen, The Boy from Oz opened at her Majesty’s Theatre in Sydney. Starring Todd McKenney as Peter and Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett as Judy Garland, it became one of the most loved musicals of the last two decades, and not only in Australia.
