School history. The origin of Canterbury Boys' High School dates back to 1917 when a deputation from the local primary school's parent and citizens association urged the minister for education to open an intermediate high school in the district.
Former prime minister John Howard visits his old high school, Canterbury Boys'. James Brickwood. Canterbury Boys High School marks its centenary at the end this month, so the Herald asked its most famous alumnus, John Winston Howard - former prime minister and member of the class of '56 - for a tour of his old high school.
