Millar recruited Martha Johnson to play keyboards; Johnson brought in a friend from high school, Carl Finkle, to play bass; and Gane's brother Tim signed on as the drummer. With Millar and Mark Gane as guitarists, and Johnson as lead vocalist, this is the line up that debuted at an Ontario College of Art Hallowe'en party in October 1977.

Carriera. Esordi. Il gruppo si formò a Toronto nel 1977 e i primi membri furono i chitarristi David Millar e Mark Gane, la tastierista e cantante Martha Johnson, il bassista Carl Finkle e il batterista Tim Gane, fratello di Mark. Johnson joined David Millar, Mark and Tim Gane, and Carl Finkle to form the band Martha and the Muffins in 1977. The band, later known as M + M, released an international hit single with "Echo Beach", with Johnson as lead singer.
