Joe was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 13, 1957, the third child of William Dulan (Dooley) Thorne and Merlin Marie Stewart Thorne. In 1960, the family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where Joe made his home for the rest of his life.
