He is known as the frontman of Welsh alternative band Colorama, [1] as a member of the Pretenders [2] and as a long-time collaborator with Edwyn Collins. [3]
Carwyn Ellis is continuing his voyage into Latin Americana with the release of a new album with Rio 18, ‘Mas’. This album is a collection of songs sung in Welsh combined with distinct pop and South American flavours drawn from Bossa Nova, Cumbia, Samba and Tropicalismo styles.

The title of this album, ‘Yn Rio’ reflects the theme and the sentiment behind the performance - it’s loosely based around a day in Rio. The first two Rio 18 albums were recorded mostly in Rio de Janeiro at the studio of producer Kassin in the Botafogo district, and this is where Carwyn stayed on his visits.
Negli ultimi giorni l’album di Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18 è stato un prezioso conforto per le sofferenze causate dall’insopportabile calura estiva. Sarebbe un peccato lasciarsi sfuggire una tale delizia, oltretutto “Joya!” è anche un eccellente antidoto alle grossolanità latin-pop che imperversano nella programmazione radiofonica.
