On 13 June 2022, Sawayama asked fans for live clips of "Catch Me in the Air" at the Dynasty Tour. The song was announced by Sawayama as Hold the Girl's second single on 24 June 2022, with a date for 27 June. Additionally, a snippet of the song was made available on TikTok.
