Biografia. Patrick Bowes-Lyon era figlio di Claude Bowes-Lyon, XIV Conte di Strathmore e Kinghorne e di Nina Cecilie Cavendish-Bentinck. Egli era il fratello maggiore della regina madre, nata Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, e quindi poi zio della regina Elisabetta II del Regno Unito .

He married Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck on 16 July 1881 in Petersham, Surrey. The couple had ten children. The Earl would part his moustache in a theatrical, but courteous gesture, before kissing them:

Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon’s mother, Nina Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck, married Claude Bowes-Lyon (the Earl of Strathmore from 1904) in 1881. They had ten children, of whom Elizabeth was the penultimate child and youngest daughter.
