The Choir of HM Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, has been enriching the cultural and spiritual life of England for nearly five hundred years. Today’s Choir comprises six men who are professional singers and up to 18 boys. The choirboys range in age from seven to thirteen and attend various local schools both state-run and independent.

The Chapel Royal possesses some magnificent silver-gilt plate, nearly all made at the Restoration and used to adorn the altar on festival days. The Choir of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal can trace its history to the fifteenth century and King Henry V. The twelve child choristers in the Chapel Royal Choir, based at St James’s Palace, are traditionally pupils of City of London School.
Boy groups from grammar and choir school, ages 7–14, were royally patronized to perform songs for the Queen and her court. [2] The Choir's, now just ten, boys are traditionally known as the Children of the Chapel Royal , and wear the distinctive State uniform introduced at the Restoration.
English music have been members of the Chapel Royal, including Tallis, Byrd, Gibbons, Purcell and Handel. The Chapel Royal Choir is based in the two Chapels at St. James’s Palace. Services are sung in the Tudor Chapel Royal, decorated by Holbein in honour of Henry VIII’s marriage to Anne of Cleves.

The Chapel Royal conducts the Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall and combines with the choir of the host abbey or cathedral at the Royal Maundy service. The choir was among those selected to sing at the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2023.
