Charlotte was born at the Hôtel de Soubise in Paris, the townhouse of the Rohan family in the fashionable Marais. She had a younger half-sister, Victoire Armande Josèphe de Rohan . Victoire would later become the governess of the future king, Louis de France.

Charlotte Godefride Élisabeth de Rohan née le 7 octobre 1737 et morte le 4 mars 1760 à Paris, est la fille de Charles de Rohan, prince de Soubise, proche de Louis XV et d' Anne-Marie-Louise de La Tour d'Auvergne, descendante des ducs de Bouillon et petite-fille de Marie-Anne Mancini .
Charles de Rohan, 4th Prince of Soubise (16 July 1715 – 1 July 1787), Prince of Soubise, Duke of Rohan-Rohan, Seigneur of Roberval, and Marshal of France from 1758, was a soldier, and minister to kings Louis XV and Louis XVI.
Charles de Rohan-Soubise, a.k.a. the Marshal of Soubise (1715-1787), Prince of Soubise and Marshal of France, and his daughter Charlotte Godefride Élisabeth de Rohan-Soubise (1737-1760), wife of the Prince of Condé Louis V Joseph de Bourbon-Condé (1736-1818), belonged to this branch of the family.
