In 1886, the "Academia de Guerra" (War Academy) was founded "to elevate the level of technical and scientific instruction of army officers, in order that they be able, in case of war, to utilize the advantages of new methods of combat and new armaments."

La Academia de Guerra del Ejército de Chile es la institución encargada de formar a los Oficiales de Estado Mayor del Ejército. Creada el 9 de septiembre de 1886, siendo la primera de su tipo en América y una de las más antiguas del mundo. Está ubicada en la comuna de La Reina, junto a la Academia Politécnica Militar.
