The complex includes a three- or four-sided main theatre auditorium with a maximum capacity of 680 seats, classrooms, rehearsal studios and administrative offices. In the early years, Circle in the Square Theatre offered some of America’s finest actors the chance to take on demanding roles in an atmosphere free of commercial pressure.
Circle in the Square Theatre School is a non-profit, tax exempt drama school associated with Circle in the Square Theatre; it is the only accredited conservatory attached to a Broadway theatre. It offers two 2-year full-time programs: a Professional Theatre Workshop, and a Professional Musical Theatre Workshop.

Circle in the Square Theatre was founded in 1951 by Theodore Mann, Jose Quintero, Jason Wingreen, Aileen Cramer, Ed Mann, and Emily Stevens. In 1972, Circle moved to its Broadway home on 50th Street – the first new Broadway theatre in fifty years.
