La dimora che prendeva il nome di Villa Solitaria (ma conosciuta da tutti come casa Mackenzie), è stata costruita da Compton Mackenzie a partire dal 1918 e successivamente soggetta a un lungo restauro durato circa 10 anni a opera dell’Associazione “Amici di Cetrella” (che ne possiede il comodato d’uso), per essere finalmente riaperta al pubblico nel 2005.
Edward Montague Compton Mackenzie was born on January 17 th, 1883, in West Hartlepool, County Durham, England. As a Mackenzie the family’s recent roots were in the theatre. Many of them used ‘Compton’ as their stage surname, a practice begun by his grandfather Henry Compton, a well-known Shakespearean actor of the Victorian era.
