8/10. Under-rated gem, especially for Roger Moore fans. barnabyrudge 4 December 2002. Crossplot rattles along at a breakneck pace and is a smart, ingenious and enormously entertaining adventure film. Roger Moore is great in a pre-Bond role as an advertising executive who hires a beautiful Hungarian girl to pose for some modelling shots.
Lensed in "swinging" London, the film is "mod" to an almost depressing degree, obscuring what is at base a solid espionage thriller. Moore ultimately thwarts the villains by decoding a message secreted in a crossword puzzle -- hence the film's title. The young Hungarian, an illegal refugee from her native homeland, accompanies Fenn to a photo-shoot. However, she admits she is in fear of her life, and seems disturbed by the presence of her aunt.
