Maya Darpan (transl. the illusory mirror) is a 1972 Indian Hindi-language film directed by Kumar Shahani. It is a significant work of the Indian Parallel Cinema movement which started during the 1950s with filmmakers Satyajit Ray,Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak.

Darpan (1970) 'Darpan' tackles the taboo issue of how the Indian society (particularly the higher class) looks down upon prostitutes even long after they have left their professions. While there is some melodrama in the film, the issue still stands relevant for today's India.
Darpan was introduced in the film Amanat in 1950 and went on to feature in the Pakistani Punjabi film Billo in 1951. After starring in a few more films produced in Lahore , he decided to try his luck in India, where he only had moderate level of success.
