Dave Scheff Translator is an American rock band from San Francisco that had success during the 1980s, which continues into the present day. The group created a sound that spanned updated British Merseybeat and stripped-down punk-like rock to psychedelia .

Formed in Los Angeles in 1979, Translator began as a trio of Steve Barton (guitar), Larry Dekker (bass) and Dave Scheff (drums). They would soon be joined by guitarist Robert Darlington, and that quartet lineup remains -- constant and unchanged, a rarity in the world of music -- to this day.
D. H. Peligro also left the band to "take some personal time off". He was replaced for a tour by Translator drummer Dave Scheff. On August 21, 2008, the band announced an extended break from touring due to the health-related issues of Flouride and Peligro. They stated their plans to collaborate on new projects.
