Simmons is an electronic drum brand, which originally was a pioneering British manufacturer of electronic drums. Founded in 1978 by Dave Simmons, [1] it supplied electronic kits from 1980 to 1998. The drums' distinctive, electronic sound can be found on countless albums from the 1980s.
Now, after a nearly 20-year hiatus, Simmons is returning to the world of e-drums as part of an exclusive pairing with Guitar Center. We rang the English innovator for a quick chat about his brand’s history, what brought him back, and his goals for the newly relaunched Simmons Drums.
The Simmons Story. Simmons drums begins with the founder, Dave Simmons, who began creating his first electronic drum products in the 1970s as he made custom electronic drum products for experimental musicians that wanted to add electronic sounds to their acoustic drum kits.
