Altro caposaldo del genere, ma dalla cifra stilistica più contemporanea, più cinica, più rock, a partire dalla sigla di apertura (Teardrop dei Massive Attack): la serie creata da David Shore e Paul Attanasio, in onda su Fox tra il 2004 e il 2012 per otto stagioni, ha consacrato il suo protagonista Hugh Laurie a star della tv e contribuito a svecchiare il genere andando oltre gli stereotipi del medico-eroe e puntando più sulla fase diagnostica dell’ospedalizzazione che su quella operatoria vera e propria.
- Nip/Tuck. Decisamente atipico come medical drama, questa serie che segue la vita di due chirurghi plastici di Miami, Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) e Christian Troy (Julian McMahon, il Cole di Streghe) rappresenta più un esperimento che incrocia generi diversi.
- Grey’s Anatomy + Private Practice. Che dire di un medical drama nato come tappabuchi del palinsesto estivo di ABC e capace di durare per 17 stagioni (quindici già trasmesse, altre due già annunciate dall’emittente) nonostante il cast originale sia ormai decimato.
