It is 394 years since Robert Chaloner, rector of St Mary’s Church, wrote in his will the command to his friends ‘to erect a free gramar scoole [sic] in Amersham in Bucks’ and, for 390 years, Dr Challoner’s Grammar School has survived and in fact thrived, becoming a centre of academic excellence.
