The school was named for Edward Christian Glass, Superintendent of Lynchburg Public Schools from 1879 to 1931. In September 1953, the new E. C. Glass High School building, situated on a site of fifty-seven acres and constructed at a cost of over four and one-half million dollars, opened its doors.
