Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, nato Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffmann, noto anche con lo pseudonimo di E. T. A. Hoffmann (Königsberg, 24 gennaio 1776 – Berlino, 25 giugno 1822), è stato uno scrittore, compositore, pittore e giurista tedesco, esponente del Romanticismo.

E. T. A. Hoffmann (für Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, eigentlich Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffmann; * 24. Januar 1776 in Königsberg, Ostpreußen; † 25. Juni 1822 in Berlin) war ein bedeutender deutscher Schriftsteller der Romantik. Außerdem wirkte er als Jurist, Komponist, Kapellmeister, Musikkritiker, Zeichner und Karikaturist .

Di E. T. A. Hoffmann (Königsberg 1776 - Berlino 1822), scrittore e musicista tedesco, Einaudi ha già pubblicato nei Millenni tutti i Romanzi e racconti in tre volumi e, separatamente, La principessa Brambilla, Gli elisir del diavolo, Mastro Pulce.
E.T.A. Hoffmann, scrittore, compositore, direttore d’orchestra e critico musicale, fu tra i maggiori rappresentanti del romanticismo tedesco ed europeo. Nacque a Konigsberg nel 1776 e pur senza inclinazione intraprese la carriera giudiziaria. Visse a Berlino, Varsavia e Bamberg dividendo il suo tempo fra le molteplici attività.
