She was a descendant of the Scottish King, Robert the Bruce. Brought up to duty, she worked to nurse troops in World War I when her home was used as a hospital for the wounded.

Lady Elizabeth was the ninth child and fourth daughter of Lord Claude George Bowes-Lyon and Lady Nina Cecilia Bowes-Lyon, Lord and Lady Glamis. Queen of George VI Born in the last year of Queen Victoria's reign. Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon married the Duke of York in 1923. She became Queen Elizabeth when her husband was crowned King George VI in 1937. On the King's death in 1952 she became known as the Queen Mother and her elder daughter became Queen Elizabeth II. She was the first member of the British Royal Family to pass the age of 100.
Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born on 4th August 1900, daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne. On the death of her husband she became Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Marriage. She married HRH Prince Albert, Duke of York (son of George V and Queen Mary), in Westminster Abbey on 26 April 1923.
