Biografia. Era figlia dell'Arciduca Giuseppe d'Asburgo-Lorena e di Erminia di Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym.Sua madre morì poco dopo aver dato alla luce lei ed suo fratello gemello, l'Arciduca Stefano, Palatino d'Ungheria.
Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym (originally Anhalt-Zeitz-Hoym) was a German principality and member of the Holy Roman Empire. The death of Prince Victor Amadeus of Anhalt-Bernburg in 1718 resulted in the partition of his land, with his second son Prince Lebrecht inheriting what was originally known as Anhalt-Zeitz-Hoym .

She was the eldest daughter of Victor II, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym, and Princess Amelia of Nassau-Weilburg. Hermine had three younger sisters: Adelheid, Emma, and Ida.
She was married 30 August 1815 at Schaumburg Castle. The princess was just 17 years old when she married the 39-year-old archduke.
