Errol John (20 December 1924 – 10 July 1988) was a Trinidad and Tobago actor and playwright who emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1951.

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad Errol John was an award winning playwright and actor. After leaving school John began a career as an artist and journalist but soon followed his dream to act, joining the Whitehall Players theatre group.
In January 1963, ERROL JOHN--the Trinidadian actor and playwright, author of the modern masterpiece Moon on a Rainbow Shawl, recently revived by the National Theatre and toured across Britain by Talawa-- the first black actor to play Othello at the Old Vic, the London home of Shakespeare.
