Eunice Kennedy Shriver (born July 10, 1921, Brookline, Massachusetts, U.S.—died August 11, 2009, Hyannis, Massachusetts) American social activist who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the intellectually disabled and, in an effort to provide a forum for them to compete athletically, founded (1968) the Special Olympics.
