Faro Document 1979 is the second documentary Ingmar Bergman made exploring the remote Swedish island he loved and adopted as his home for the last forty years of his life. This documentary also explores the socioeconomic realities the people who lived there faced. Bergman made this film about midway through his time living in exile in Germany.
In 1969, with Sven Nykvist as cinematographer, Ingmar Berman made The Fårö Document, a film that ended with a rather pessimist view of the island’s future. One of the scenes in the film is of a school-bus and its young passengers.
