It is located 5 miles (8 km) west of Chester and can be reached by road from the A548. In the 2011 census, Shotton had a population of 6,663.

Gwernaffield with Pantymwyn. Gwernaffield with Pantymwyn is a community in Flintshire, Wales with a population of 1942 as of the 2011 UK census. It includes the villages of Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn. [3] The community council was formed in 1985. [4] It consists of twelve councillors, six elected from the Gwernaffield ward and six from Pantymwyn.

The council is based in County Hall, Preston, and consists of 84 councillors. Since the 2017 election, the council has been under Conservative control.
From its creation in 1542 until 1918, the constituency consisted of the historic county of Flintshire in north-east Wales. The seat should not be confused with the borough constituency of Flint or that of Flint Boroughs, which together existed from the 16th century until 1918. In 1889 an administrative county of Flintshire was created.
