Fort Defiance is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States. It is part of the Staunton – Waynesboro Micropolitan Statistical Area . History. Augusta Stone Church was established in the area now known as Fort Defiance in 1740.

In 1780 the name Fort Defiance belonged not to the house that currently stands, but to a fort not far from this location. William Lenoir resided in the fort and had joined the militia under Benjamin Cleveland.
Website. Constructed on the property of Clarksville pioneer Valentine Sevier and renamed on completion, Fort Defiance was abandoned by Confederate forces during the capture of Clarksville, leading to the fall of Nashville. Confederate troops briefly reoccupied Fort Defiance in the summer of 1862.
The Augusta Military Academy Museum is located in the AMA Alumni House in Fort Defiance, Virginia. The museum sits among stately old trees and expansive lawns on the grounds of the now-closed military academy. Fort Defiance is located eight miles north of Staunton on U.S. Route 11, the historic Valley Pike.
