19 apr 2024 · Francesco V died in Vienna on 20th November 1875, aged fifty-six. He was interred in the Imperial Crypt in the Austrian city. He bequeathed his fortune to Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria (assassinated in 1914) on the condition that he used the title Archduke of Austria-Este.

Morì a 86 anni nella notte, a Vienna nel Palazzo di Schonbrunn, Sua Maestà Imperial Regia Apostolica Francesco Giuseppe I che regnava da oltre 68 anni sul grande Impero Asburgico. Visitò per cinque volte la città di Gorizia e la Contea Principesca. Gli successe Carlo primo, beatificato nel 2004 da papa Giovanni Paolo II.
