The Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art includes the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. The Freer Gallery of Art was the first museum of the Smithsonian Institution to be dedicated to the fine arts. Besides Asian art, the Freer houses a collection of 19th- and early 20th-century American art, including the world’s largest number of works by American-born, British-based artist James McNeill Whistler (1834–1903).

Il Freer Gallery of Art è un museo di arte asiatica e del Vicino Oriente, fondato nel 1923, situato a Washington, negli Stati Uniti d'America. Fu fondato dal magnate ferroviario, Charles Lang Freer, autodidatta appassionato di arte orientale i cui affari erano a Detroit.
