Doyle recruited drummer Steve Wied (formerly of Skin Yard) and guitarist Gary Thorstensen to complete the full line-up. Tad's debut album God's Balls appeared in early 1989, and was also produced by Endino. In March 1990, the band released Salt Lick, recorded by Steve Albini.

Era nei TAD dall’inizio, era la loro chitarra, non fu sostituito neanche quando se ne andò. Era l’unico che non beveva, guidava sempre, faceva da babbo.
Capitanati dal possente ex macellaio Tad Doyle (136 kg di peso) alla chitarra ed alla voce, la band si formò nel tardo 1988, con Kurt Danielson al basso, Gary Thorstensen alla chitarra e Steve Wied (ex Skin Yard) alla batteria. Doyle suonava la batteria in un gruppo chiamato H-Hour.
Gary Thorstensen was originally from Chicago and played guitar in the band Tree Climbers with Poneman. We asked Thorstensen to help create the framework of what would, later that year, become the first TAD LP, God’s Balls. Naturally, we chose to return to Reciprocal to record with Endino.
