Biography. George Rupp is a distinguished visiting scholar at Columbia’s Institute for Religion, Culture, and Public Affairs and an adjunct professor of religion, public health, and international affairs. Dr. Rupp served as President of the International Rescue Committee from 2002 to 2013.

Educated in Europe and Asia as well as the United States, he is the author of numerous articles and six books, including Beyond Individualism: the Challenge of Inclusive Communities (2015). In 2015, Dr. Rupp was the recipient of the Yale Divinity School Lux et Veritas Award.
Dr. Rupp is an expert on similarities and differences within and among religious traditions, including the relationship of religious communities to conflict and post-conflict development. He is the author of numerous articles and five books, including Globalization Challenged: Conviction, Conflict, Community (2006).
