Sir George Gabriel Stokes, 1st Baronet, FRS (/ s t oʊ k s /; 13 August 1819 – 1 February 1903) was an Irish physicist and mathematician. Born in County Sligo, Ireland, Stokes spent all of his career at the University of Cambridge, where he was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics from 1849 until his death in 1903.

George Gabriel Stokes è stato un matematico e fisico irlandese. Docente dell'Università di Cambridge, diede importanti contributi alla dinamica dei fluidi , all'ottica, e alla fisica matematica . Egli fu nominato baronetto per meriti scientifici e fu segretario e successivamente presidente della Royal Society.
