Biografia. I primi anni. Gisella Agnese von Rath, madre di Leopoldo di Anhalt-Köthen e reggente del principato durante la sua minore età. Leopoldo era il figlio secondogenito del principe Emanuele Lebrecht di Anhalt-Köthen e della sua moglie morganatica, la nobile Gisella Agnese von Rath.
Gisela Agnes von Rath (* 9. Oktober 1669 in Kleinwülknitz; † 12. März 1740 in Nienburg) war seit 1694 Reichsgräfin von Nienburg sowie seit 1692 durch Heirat Fürstin von Anhalt-Köthen, das sie von 1704 bis 1715 als Vormund für ihren Sohn regierte. Gisela Agnes von Rath (1669-1740) Gisela Agnes von Rath wurde am 9. Oktober 1669 in Kleinwülknitz geboren und entstammte einer alten lutherischen Landadelsfamilie. Auf dem Neujahrsempfang im Januar 1691 kam es zur ersten persönlichen Begegnung von Gisela Agnes mit dem noch unter Vormundschaft stehenden Fürsten Emanuel Leberecht von Anhalt-Köthen.
Nel 1692, Emmanuele Lebrecht si sposò con Gisella Agnese von Rath, dalla quale ebbe i seguenti eredi: Augusto Lebrecht (24 maggio-25 ottobre 1693) Leopoldo ( 1694 - 1728 ), Principe di Anhalt-Köthen, sposò Federica Enrichetta di Anhalt-Bernburg e poi Carlotta Federica di Nassau-Siegen.
