The Godhra train burning occurred on the morning of 27 February 2002: 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from Ayodhya were killed in a fire inside the Sabarmati Express near the Godhra railway station in the Indian state of Gujarat. The cause of the fire remains disputed.

A coach of the train--Coach S6--was set ablaze and 59 passengers travelling in that coach were charred to death. The victims included 27 women and 10 children. Injuries were suffered by another 48 passengers in the train.
